The safety and wellbeing of all children and young people at our village school is of paramount importance. Parents and carers send their children to school each day with the expectation that the school provides a safe and secure environment in which their children can thrive. We, therefore, as a whole school team have to ensure that this expectation becomes reality. In order to achieve this, a wide range of measures are put into place.

The Governing Board keep these policies under regular review. They ensure the Head Teacher provides termly updates on safeguarding as part of her report to Governors. 

 

SAFER RECRUITMENT

 

We are committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and vulnerable adults, and expect all staff and volunteers to share this commitment.

 

On every interview panel there are 2 interviewers who have had training in Safer Recruitment.

  • Safeguarding Advice for Parents in Devon The Devon Safeguarding Children Board website contains a wealth of information for anyone in Devon who has responsibility for safeguarding children; including parents, carers, teachers, doctors and volunteers. There are dedicated sections for children and young people, workers and volunteers and parents and carers that aim to supply information on key issues. The website also has a library where you can download important documents and reports.
  • Safeguarding Advice for Parents in Cornwall Multi Agency Referral Unit (MARU) The MARU provides a multi-disciplinary response to concerns about the welfare or safety of a child or young person in line with statutory guidance from Our Safeguarding Children Partnership for Cornwall and the Isles of Scilly. The multi-disciplinary team also provides advice and guidance to parents and professionals about the wide range of services available to children and families in Cornwall.

Operation Encompass

 

Operation Encompass is a unique Police and Education early intervention safeguarding partnership which supports children and young people exposed to domestic abuse.

 

Operation Encompass is the reporting to schools before the start of the next school day when a child or young person has been involved or exposed to a domestic abuse incident the previous evening.

 

The information is given in strict confidence to a school’s Key Adult to enable support to be given dependent on the needs and wishes of the child.

 

St Giles on the Heath Primary School is engaged with this scheme.

  • Think u Know Thinkuknow is the education programme from NCA-CEOP, a UK organisation which protects children both online and offline.
  • REACH Reducing Exploitation and Absence from Care or Home (REACH) is a service which supports young people who either run away or who are at risk of Child Sexual Exploitation (CSE).
