Dear Families and Stakeholders,

Re: Outcome of consultation on proposed federation of St Giles-on-the-Heath Primary School and Ashwater Primary School & Halwill Primary School (The Carey Federation).

Following careful consideration of feedback received during the consultation, both governing boards have agreed to proceed with the above proposal. Therefore, from 20th April 2026, The Carey Federation will comprise Ashwater Primary School, Halwill Primary School and St Giles-on-the-Heath Primary School, under the leadership of Executive Headteacher, Mrs Ruh Alford.

The Federation will continue to build on the successful leadership partnership already in place. The governors remain firmly of the view that the Federation will enable the sharing of strong and proven leadership and create greater capacity in leadership, safeguard high standards of teaching and learning, and provide greater opportunities for children and staff across all three schools, while preserving the individual identity and community role of each school.

Thank you to everyone who took the time to engage with the consultation. We are grateful for the thoughtful questions, comments and feedback shared by parents, staff, community members and other stakeholders throughout the consultation period. Your involvement has been valued and has helped to shape this important decision.

As explained in the consultation document, a new governing board will be formed when the federation starts. We will be seeking volunteers for the parent governor and staff governor positions, further information on how to nominate yourself, and what is involved in the role, will be shared following the Easter holiday.
